Kazakhstan Expands Khorgos Railway Capacity

Kazakhstan continues strengthening the transport corridor connecting China and Europe. The Altynkol–Khorgos railway section is set to nearly double its capacity, increasing from 18 to 33 train pairs per day. This is one of the largest infrastructure upgrades in recent years for the China–Kazakhstan route.

The main goal is to reduce congestion at the border, accelerate container transit, and increase cargo volumes moving through Kazakhstan. Against the backdrop of instability in global maritime shipping routes, many companies are once again shifting freight toward overland transit through Central Asia.

For businesses, this means:
- faster cargo delivery from China;
- reduced container delays;
- growing demand for railway logistics;
- expansion of warehouse infrastructure near Almaty and dry ports.

Industry experts believe the Khorgos expansion will significantly impact e-commerce, legal imports, and multimodal transportation throughout 2026.
